First Net Gain completer in the South West - With thanks to Cosmic
October 18th 2006This week’s third Net Gain workshop marked an important and exciting stage of the service, with Cosmic congratulating Mark Goodman of VYS Devon for being the first Net Gain participant in the South West to complete.
Net Gain is a program being offered by Cosmic to help Voluntary and Community Organisations (VCOs) understand how their objectives can be advanced through the strategic use of ICT. Rather than investing in technology in the hope of becoming more efficient, the Net Gain program enables VCOs to examine how they share information and identify where ICT can bring efficiencies and improve service delivery. Cosmic is one of 31 centres offering Net Gain in the UK.
Mark Goodman, Manager of VYS Devon, feeds back on his experience of Net Gain:
Q. Why did you choose to take part in Net Gain?
A. Whilst having a strategic plan and annual work plan, neither made any reference to ICT and I thought that the organisation needed to spend some time reflecting upon where we were and what we wanted to achieve in relation to ICT. Net Gain was advertised and it seemed like an appropriate tool to meet our requirements. In addition I have worked with Cosmic over a number of years and had a good relationship with the staff and this helped my decision as well.
Q. How has Net Gain benefited your personnel development?
A. Improved knowledge and understanding of ICT in relation to how it supports organisational development.

A. We will as a result of the work have:
From April 2007 VYS will have replacement strategy for our ICT hardware with monies being set aside each year to meet this commitment.
A section within the 2007/08 Work plan on ICT development for VYS
A section within the next Strategic Plan (2008) setting out our needs and plans in relation to ICT
Increased our feedback from customers through the design of a web based (CMS) survey
Increased our effectiveness in relation to how we support customers through more effective use of ICT
