The Role

We're looking for a talented and experienced individual to oversee all financial management activities of the business including budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.

This person will review and input to the effective management of all finances relating to project and client contracts, and the smooth running of our financial management systems and processes. They will guide senior staff and the Board in making sound business decisions in the long and short-term through financial modelling and research. Ensuring statutory requirements are met for financial management.  

Key Result Areas:       

  1. Ensure all financial plans are developed and implemented effectively and provide management across the business to other staff involved in finance processes and tasks.
  2. Directly manage all financial and operational planning and monitoring, including setting budgets and cashflow forecasts, financial analysis and reporting. Identifying and implementing cost-savings.
  3. Review, produce and interpret monthly and quarterly management accounts to include cashflow review, profit & loss reports, budget/forecast updates and risk register review, and to present reports to CEOs and the Board.
  4. Monitor cashflow in the business to ensure funds are available as needed, and compliance with the company’s Reserves Policy.
  5. To support CEOs in development of strategic plans from a financial perspective, identifying ways in which profitability and impact can develop, and risks can be minimised.  
  6. To oversee the effective management of payroll by Finance Officer and external accountants.
  7. Manage the production of Annual Accounts and associated reports.
  8. Oversee the development and effective implementation of all financial policies and procedures, including procurement.
  9. Contract management activities including the analysis of contractual terms before agreements are reached, and identifying the financial risks, management of VAT issues and assisting in the modelling the resources necessary to achieve the outputs and outcomes.
  10. Meeting legal and regulatory requirements, reporting to CEO on any issues or compliance challenges. Supporting all governance activities around financial management including audit and internal review.
  11. Ensure effective relationships are developed and maintained with external accountants, bank, and other partnerships.
  12. Support Team Leaders and Project Managers in their development and effective deployment of operational and financial management systems and processes, and in the means of evidencing performance through dashboard reports.
  13. Maintain the Risk Register to include all financial risks, and review with the Board on a regular basis.

  • Professional finance or accounting qualifications – CIMA, ACCA or CIPFA preferred
  • 3 plus years’ experience in a similar role
  • An analytical mindset with the ability to manage large amounts of data accurately and to tight timescales
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate different personalities
  • Strong influencing skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and be flexible in working hours.

Important information


Salary depending on experience: circa £40K (expressed as an annual full-time salary). Actual salary will be a pro rata value based on a part time role. 

Term: Part time - estimated as 30 hours per week. Permanent. (A full time position may be considered). 

Based: Cosmic Head Office is located in Honiton, East Devon, but this will be a home-based role with frequent remote working. However, it is important that you are able to attend meetings and events in the local region - so long-distance remote working is unadvised.
