The Plastic Free Minehead campaign was started in 2018 by a group of local residents who were responding to a growing concern about plastic waste in the town and an awareness of how much single-use plastic was being generated.
The project then developed to have a purpose; Supporting plastic-free and sustainable ‘green’ initiatives for businesses, communities and individuals in Minehead and beyond.
The website project, slightly delayed by a world wide pandemic and the resultant impacts, we were originally approached to create a website to reduce plastic waste in Minehead. Somerset Wildlife Trust and Minehead BID created the project and the website was seen as a key tool in the project.
Cosmic worked with the project coordinator to specify the requirement; for design, development, research, training and ongoing services (SSL, Hosting, Domains and security updates).
We produced a colourful and modern site that stylistically aligned with other water based environmental groups in the area.
Our process was to produce 2 initial designs for consideration and feedback and then refine the clients chosen preference to a final version. once that homepage design was agreed we then produce all internal layout artwork again for feedback, adjustment and approval. This follows our bespoke website design journey.
The final agreed design assets were then handed over to the web development team who created bespoke CSS and code to create the new website.
Meanwhile the client gathered together the content to fill in the website.
We also offered training to allow the client to update the website themselves and also a support contract to help with ongoing updates, web development and fixes.
The resulting site is a bespoke presentation of how businesses in Minehead can reduce their reliance on single use plastic and the alternatives that are available.
The website was designed in partnership with Minehead BID, Litter Free Coast and Sea and Somerset Wildlife Trust to offer guidance to local businesses on their plastic-free journeys and to promote and share best practice.
