That’s why Somerset Start and Grow is here, offering free business support in Somerset to help you plan, build, and grow with confidence. Funded by Somerset Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, this programme is delivered by Business Information Point (BIP) and Cosmic.
How the Programme Works
BIP handles your application and provides up to 6 hours tailored one-to-one support. Once your needs are identified, Cosmic steps in to deliver expert-led workshops that match your goals and skill gaps.
One-to-one Support with BIP
Your journey starts with a free video call with a BIP business advisor. You’ll receive a personalised action plan to guide your next steps.
Practical Support for Established Businesses
Once you’re on the programme, BIP will send you an invitation to book a 1-to-1 session via video call with one of their experienced business advisors. Together, you’ll take a good look at where your business is now and what you want to achieve.
From there, you’ll create a tailored Support and Growth Action Plan, designed just for your business. This plan could include support in:
- Setting business goals and refining your strategy
- Streamlining day-to-day operations
- Exploring new technologies and digital tools
- Developing and launching new products or services
- Finding fresh market opportunities, including rural and underserved audiences
- Sharpening your marketing approach with smart tools like CRM systems
- Strengthening your business resilience and risk management
- Supporting your team with HR and leadership guidance
- Managing finances, applying for grants, and accessing funding
You’ll have access to ongoing advice and tools to help you grow sustainably and with confidence, with BIP’s friendly team just a call or message away.

Thinking about starting a business, or have you already taken the leap? Then this programme is here to help you get it right from the start.
You’ll begin with a 1-to-1 planning session with BIP over video call with one of their friendly, experienced advisors. Together, you’ll explore your business idea, your readiness to launch, and what success looks like for you.
From there, they’ll co-create a personalised action plan tailored to your next steps. This might include support in:
- Writing a practical business plan
- Getting to grips with finances and cash flow
- Shaping your brand and marketing strategy
- Understanding business regulations and compliance
- Exploring digital tools and simple CRM systems
- Looking after HR and environmental impact
- Managing operations and planning for risk

BIP will also connect you to the practical workshops, run by Cosmic on the following topics:
