From Julie Harris: A new Twitter Friend has challenged me to come up with the Top 10 Social Entrepreneur tracks in reaction to reading a feature for entrepreneurs more generally – so here goes Pop Pickers!
10. Ok, so everyone regards plenty of us as Hippies with calculators, and often makes a crack (or ten) about hair shirts and sandals. But in truth, its not so much about the social revolutionaries of the 60s for me; its more to do with the itch which needs to be scratched. So lets start our countdown with a tune that sums it up pretty well …
Hippy Hippy Shake – Swinging Blue Jeans – [VIDEO::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ke8mzgex4U]
9. And moving on up the chart with a clear reference to the chance which social enterprise gives all of us to make a point. Motivations for using business to bring about social change differ in almost every social enterprise, but there are plenty of people, including me, who revel in being rebels!
Rebel Yell – Billy Idol – [VIDEO::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdphvuyaV_I]
8. There’s hardly a Top 10 on record in the history of music which could ignore Mr Dylan, and certainly one which relate to social change could never (in my humble opinion) ignore such a genius. Perhaps the choice of song isn’t best known, but it pure brillance in lyrics and sentiment – enjoy!
Gotta Serve Somebody – Bob Dylan – [VIDEO::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FavBDpg91gA&feature=related]
7. No social entrepreneur’s life is complete without a few sleepless night each month Sometimes awake and pacing the floors worrying about people, money, deadline….. But sometimes awake because my brain just will not rest. And once I’ve got an idea to change the world it feels rude to sleep on it!
Insomnia – Faithless [VIDEO::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBrUjvONIrA]
6. And so on up the charts with a track aimed at clear recognition of the optimism which plays a major role in achievement for social enterprises all over the world. Hi Ho Silver Lining – Jeff Beck – [VIDEO::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvLGPEvxABY]
5. An unusual one now – and clearly one which relates to our work at Cosmic more so than other social enterprises. But I’ve also included it because we all need to know how social media makes great social enterprise sense.

4. And now we’re closing in on the top spot and time to reflect on the ethics and values which make great social enterprise even greater. As a business are you able to show yours?
True Colours – Cyndi Lauper – [VIDEO::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPn0KFlbqX8]
3. Money makes its debut and straight in at number 3! Oh, I know, I know – social enterprise isn’t driven purely by profit. But lets face it, without making it then we won’t ever get where we wanna be. So as the song says “that’s’ what I want … money”
Money – Flying Lizards – [VIDEO::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-P2qL3qkzk&feature=player_embedded#at=11]
2. And another great set of lyrics and values expressed by one of the Fab Four – this time an expression for me of the isolation in social entrepreneur and leadership territories, and how much stronger and braver we can be when we know we are loved, and supported
Stand By Me – John Lennon -[VIDEO::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4_ghOG9JQM&feature=related]
1. And top of the pops are Noel and Liam (not you Mr Black!). For every social entrepreneur and their enterprise, our aim should always be to make sure that we are building strong and lasting legacy. Lead your social enterprise in a way that ensures its gonna be strong long, long after you’ve gone!
Live Forever – Oasis -[VIDEO::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2poqYvWsyU]
We really want to hear your top 10! let us know!
