Here follows the experiences of our 2 work experience students Jean Delos Santos and Matt Rose.
Jean
Well where do I begin? My week at cosmic has been an experience that I will treasure forever. On my first day I was very anxious because I didn’t know what to expect, and I didn’t know many people here. But as soon as I got into the office everyone was very friendly and helpful! Working here didn’t feel like work, it felt like a breath of fresh air. Cosmic made me use different parts of my brain as I didn’t just work on one specific field; I worked on a variety of different things. Every day was different; one day I would be presenting an award with Julie at Bovey Tracey and another day I would be in an Devon Business Meeting with Kate at Okehampton. I got to learn about all aspects of the company, I learnt about their leadership programmes, the processes of making a campaign and even designing apps! They even taught me how to make great coffee!
Before Cosmic I had a pre-conception of how an office worked; I thought that you had completely independent and alone to be able to make a good product. However working here has made me realise that you can make even better products when you are in an environment with people that you can be social and comfortable with. It has also opened my eyes all the behind the scenes action of working in a business and just how much work is needed for a business to succeed. After work you don’t go home tired of all the hard work you have done, you go home eager to know what will happen tomorrow!
At the end of the week I didn’t just feel like a work experience student, I felt like a part of the team. I will surely miss all the banter and the very friendly atmosphere. I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone at Cosmic for giving me an experience of a lifetime!

If I had to described my experience at Cosmic in one word it would be, amazing. To say that I had only learnt how to make a websites would be an understatement, for I have taken away knowledge in business management, graphic design and entrepreneurial skills whilst here. I thought that all Cosmic did was make websites, but after being here I learned how Cosmic is a fully fledged business that wants to make the way we view and use media to the best of is potential. For instance Jean and I learned about the new “Digital Inclusion” campaign which aims to give everyone the choice of being able to have access to the internet, not just for fun but to help learning, social skills and helping young people to see the internet as a means of starting a business and having the chance to make money.
What also made me see Cosmic as a fantastic business was that they aren’t just using money they earn for personal gain, but to help and inspire others by using the profit they earn and spend it in the community to try and make the benefit of living in the digital world accessible to everyone. Also being at Cosmic, it showed me that the way in which technology is used, can be for means that I thought unreal or impossible, seamlessly blending technology and the world together.
I would like to say thanks to everyone at Cosmic for helping me learn, improve and have fun in the work place. I can honestly say that my perceptions of work in an office are completely and utterly wrong. Cosmic is a wonderful work place, where you can be creative, have fun in your work and meet some incredible people.
Words cannot describe the time I had at Cosmic, but I can say, thank you
