AI training for businesses needs to be practical.
Taking time away from everyday work is an investment, so staff need skills they can continue using long after the training ends.
Four members of the Cosmic team have completed our AI for Workplace Productivity Skills Bootcamp. Sarah, Georgina, Fiona and Beth work across project coordination, senior project management and marketing.
Each has applied their new skills to different parts of their role. Their experiences show how practical AI training can save time, improve everyday processes and help people use AI with greater confidence.
Feedback from other Skills Bootcamp attendees shows similar benefits, including greater confidence, better workflows and more efficient ways of working.
What does AI training for businesses teach?
The Skills Bootcamp gives learners hands-on experience of using AI for real workplace tasks.
Rather than focusing only on theory, learners test ideas, improve their approach and explore where AI could make a useful difference in their own role.
Skills developed through the programme include:
- Writing clear prompts and improving them to get more useful results
- Researching topics and summarising detailed information
- Drafting emails, reports, plans and internal documents
- Analysing feedback and organising actions
- Reviewing workflows to identify repeated manual tasks
- Checking AI-generated information for accuracy, clarity and tone
- Using AI safely and responsibly, with people making the final decisions
These skills can be useful across different teams and sectors. They can also give staff a stronger foundation for adapting as workplace technology changes.
How Cosmic staff are using AI at work
Sarah: more time for learners, employers and colleagues

Sarah is a Project Coordinator at Cosmic. Her role includes learner communications, reporting, planning, meeting summaries, process documents and stakeholder engagement.
The training helped Sarah write clearer prompts, ask better follow-up questions and review AI-generated information more effectively.
She now uses those skills when working on reports, emails, research, planning and routine administration.
Sarah estimates that AI saves her between one and two hours on a typical working day. This has not been formally measured. It reflects the difference she has noticed in the time spent researching, drafting and editing.
That gives her more time to support learners, employers and colleagues.
“I estimate AI saves me between one and two hours each working day.”
Georgina: more capacity for project delivery

Georgina is Cosmic’s Senior Project Manager. Her work includes project planning, reporting, stakeholder communications and analysing learner and survey feedback.
Since completing the training, Georgina has used AI across a range of operational tasks.
She uses it to summarise information, organise action plans, prepare project documents, draft client communications and support data analysis.
The programme also strengthened her confidence in checking AI-generated work and applying professional judgement before using it.
Georgina estimates that these new ways of working save around five to ten hours each week.
That creates more capacity for project delivery, stakeholder engagement and support for colleagues and learners.
“AI is helping me save around five to ten hours each week.”
Fiona: making marketing research more efficient
Fiona is Cosmic’s Marketing Coordinator. Her role includes planning campaigns, researching topics and keeping up with changes in digital marketing.

The Skills Bootcamp gave Fiona practical ways to use AI to support research, planning and organisation.
She can use AI to explore a topic, identify useful themes and trends, bring together information from different sources and organise early ideas more efficiently.
Fiona then uses her marketing experience and knowledge of Cosmic’s audiences to decide what is useful and how those insights should inform the wider marketing approach.
This has helped her develop a quicker, more structured marketing workflow, with less time spent gathering and organising information and more time to focus on planning, priorities and engaging with audiences.
“The programme gave me practical AI skills that I could apply directly to my role.”
Beth: improving a repeated admin process
Beth is a Project Coordinator at Cosmic. She manages high volumes of participant communications, coordinates appointment information across different systems and supports trainers with accurate, timely messages.

During the programme, Beth developed skills in writing prompts, analysing workflows, creating structured communications and using AI responsibly.
She now applies these skills to emails, reports, summaries, task planning and checks for clarity and consistency.
For her Capstone project, Beth designed an AI-assisted participant communication workflow that could reduce several manual steps.
Testing indicated a potential saving of more than two minutes per message, while keeping a final human check in the process.
Across a high volume of messages, those minutes could quickly add up.
“My Capstone explored a process that could save over two minutes per participant message.”
Why practical AI training is worth the time
The value of training does not stop when the taught sessions finish.
Staff return to their roles with practical skills they can use repeatedly and adapt as their work changes.
Saving time is one benefit. The wider impact can include clearer communications, more consistent documents, smoother processes and greater confidence when using new technology.
Training also gives people an opportunity to look at familiar tasks differently.
Employees often know the small frustrations and repeated processes within their roles better than anyone. With the right skills and support, they can start turning those observations into practical improvements.
Responsible use matters too.
AI should support people’s work rather than remove the need for judgement, accuracy checks or accountability.
What could other businesses achieve?
Every organisation is different.
Results will depend on the role, workload, existing processes and how AI is used.
However, the experiences of Cosmic staff and other Skills Bootcamp attendees show some of the benefits that businesses could work towards through practical AI training.
These can include:
- Less time spent on routine emails, reports and documents
- Faster review of guidance, notes and feedback
- More consistent internal communications
- Fewer manual steps in repeated processes
- More capacity for customers, delivery and team support
- Greater confidence using AI and digital tools
- Safer and more responsible AI use
- Better research and organisation of information
- New ideas for improving services and internal workflows
The best opportunities often start with an ordinary task.
Perhaps it is a report that always takes too long to structure.
It might be information that needs bringing together from several different sources.
Or it could be meeting notes that need turning into clear actions.
Starting with a real workplace problem makes it easier to see where AI may genuinely help.
When several employees take part in training, they can also share ideas and learn from each other. This can help businesses develop a more consistent and responsible approach to using AI across different teams.
AI Skills Bootcamps in Somerset and Dorset
Cosmic’s AI for Workplace Productivity Skills Bootcamp is available to individuals and employees in Somerset and Dorset.
Employers can enrol people from different teams and departments, giving staff time to learn, practise and apply their skills to real work.
The experiences of Sarah, Georgina, Fiona and Beth show how AI training for businesses can support different roles inside one organisation.
Feedback from other attendees shows that the benefits can extend much further too, from saving time and improving workflows to building confidence and using AI more responsibly.
The return on training time will look different for everyone.
It might be an hour saved, a smoother process, clearer information or the confidence to approach a task in a new way.
