Stallcombe House provides residential accommodation and a place of work and personal development for up to 33 adults with learning disabilities, aged eighteen and over. Based in East Devon, their 55 acre site provides beautiful gardens, an organic fruit and vegetable garden, and a large farm in which individuals are encouraged to work towards their full potential at their own level and pace. This charity provides a homely and supportive environment, which promotes independence through education, therapeutic work and recreation.

Cosmic have the honour of supporting Stallcombe House with their IT needs. As a customer of our IT tech support services, Stallcombe receive round-the-clock remote and onsite support that ensures that the business is able to function, and the residents and guests are able to enjoy the facilities on offer. Our engineers understand the sensitive nature of the domestic and business environment at Stallcombe, and ensure that issues of data privacy and security are handled appropriately.  Cosmic staff have worked alongside Stallcombe staff and residents to make this happen.

Stallcombe promotes the same rights and opportunities for those living with learning disabilities and autism as anyone. Cosmic particularly admire their wider ethical stance, promoting green and sustainable living practices, and a conscientious approach to working with local suppliers and businesses.

Amanda Greenaway, Head of Charity for Stallcombe House says “We are proud of what we have achieved here to date, both in terms of the social and physical environment. We have a reed bed, we generate most of our own electricity through our solar array, we have a biomass boiler to heat the houses, and use a bore hole to water our organic garden.”

People with learning disabilities and autism need consistent positive engagement. Each individual at Stallcombe has a plan of care, which is assessed and reviewed regularly and as frequently as needed. All residents contribute to that plan, which is formed around their wishes. Plans are formulated to include a daily activity, including therapeutic work in the farm, gardens, wood workshop or the extensive craft workshop.  They produce a variety of wonderful things which are sold to the wider community. Stallcombe place the welfare and happiness of their residents first and foremost. Cosmic are also pleased to hear how they place a proactive focus on an individual’s greater integration into the wider community.

As you might imagine, the high level of detail and care also extends to the diets and kitchen life at Stallcombe, with organic wholefood, local sourced meat and home-grown fruit and vegetables from the gardens. “Staff are trained to positively encourage residents to make wise choices when shopping in the wider community” Amanda tells us. The level of care and the vibrant environment are impressive, and Cosmic are proud to work with a charity like Stallcombe.
