As a long-standing and valued client of Cosmic, Tavistock Town Council engaged our team to undertake a comprehensive redevelopment of their website. Their existing platform was operating on a legacy content management system that lacked modern functionality, scalability, and compliance with current web standards.
Cosmic migrated the website to the WordPress content management framework, selected for its flexibility, extensibility, and user-friendly interface. The redevelopment process involved significant technical enhancements, including the implementation of custom templates and components designed to support the Council’s operational needs.
A core focus of the project was achieving compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), ensuring the site would be accessible to users with a range of disabilities. This involved structured semantic markup, keyboard navigation support, alternative text for media, and colour contrast optimisations—each carefully integrated to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA standard.
To ensure the sustainability of the new platform, Cosmic delivered an in-person training session in Tavistock for multiple members of the Council team. The session covered key aspects of WordPress content management, including page creation, media handling, accessibility considerations, and routine maintenance procedures. This knowledge transfer ensures that the Council can confidently manage and update their website autonomously moving forward.
The result is a modern, accessible, and future-proof web presence that better serves both the Council’s operational goals and the needs of the wider Tavistock community.
