Helping People Gain Confidence with Technology
Residents from the Sovereign Network Group recently took part in a two-part online workshop series hosted by Cosmic, designed to build digital confidence and introduce the power of AI in everyday life.
The sessions — Critical Thinking and AI Awareness and Using AI as a Personal Coach — were tailored for beginners, making complex topics feel accessible, supportive, and practical.

What the Workshops Covered
In these sessions, participants dived into the basics. First, they learned what AI is, how it works, and what “digital thinking” really means. Then, they practised staying safe online and discovered how to spot helpful tools — and which ones to avoid.
Next, we shared real-life examples showing how AI can support everyday tasks — like writing emails, coming up with ideas, or helping with learning. These practical examples made the tools feel relevant and easy to try.
Most importantly, we encouraged learners to think critically. We didn’t just focus on how to use AI, but also helped people consider when and why it might be useful in their own lives.
Throughout the sessions, we kept everything clear and inclusive. No jargon — just practical, real-world skills. Learners asked questions, explored tools, and reflected on how technology could support them to work, connect, and learn with more confidence.

Real Impact: Building Confidence and Curiosity
These workshops didn’t just teach digital skills — they sparked confidence.
“I am so out of touch with all things digital… but this session made it clear how simple AI is to use. I now have the confidence to give it a try on my own.”
“Covered a new area — especially where older ones may depend on family to help. It enables more independence and keeps you safe too.”
“As a novice with digital skills, I found these sessions very eye-opening. I’ve since used ChatGPT for film scripts.”
Why It Matters
These workshops made a real difference. As a result, many participants walked away feeling much more confident using technology. In fact, some even started using AI tools on their own straight after the sessions.
For others, the experience sparked a curiosity to keep learning and trying new things independently. This momentum is powerful — and it shows just how important the right support can be. Especially now, when technology is changing so quickly, people need space and encouragement to stay connected and confident.
By creating a safe, welcoming space to ask questions, try out tools, and learn at their own pace, the sessions helped people build long-lasting digital confidence — not just for the day, but for the future.
