Digital Transformation for Housing Associations: Raven’s Story

Raven Housing Trust began a five-year digital transformation programme in 2018. Working with Cosmic as a trusted consultancy partner, the Surrey-based housing association strengthened its systems, skills and culture. The aim was clear: improve services for customers, help colleagues work more effectively and build lasting confidence around digital change

The challenge: modernising systems and ways of working

Raven needed to modernise outdated systems and processes while keeping people at the centre of change. The organisation wanted to use more automation and joined-up data to improve customer service and day-to-day efficiency.

At the same time, Raven needed strong data quality, integration and governance. Consistent information would help teams make better decisions and use new systems with confidence.

The programme focused on four connected areas:

  • Business transformation
  • Technology transformation
  • Culture and change
  • Data transformation

How Cosmic supported Raven’s digital transformation

Cosmic provided practical support at every level of the organisation. This combined leadership development, colleague training, technical guidance and ongoing mentoring.

Digital leadership training and mentoring

Tailored workshops and mentoring helped Raven’s leaders build the knowledge and confidence to guide an ambitious change programme. Sessions focused on customer needs, strategic decision-making and the people side of transformation.

Digital Champions and manager training

Cosmic helped Raven develop a network of Digital Champions and supported managers to encourage continuous learning. This gave colleagues trusted people to turn to and helped teams solve problems together.

Digital skills strategy and audit

A detailed digital skills audit informed the rollout of new systems and training. Cosmic delivered Microsoft 365 sessions and tailored support for colleagues with different levels of digital confidence.

The programme also included a Citizen Developer pilot. This helped Raven explore how teams could build useful departmental tools through Microsoft Power Platform.

Technical and information-management guidance

Cosmic advised on SharePoint architecture, migration planning and policy reviews. This supported clearer information management, stronger governance and effective use of new technology.

Culture and change support

Technology alone does not create lasting change. Cosmic worked with Raven to build the culture, confidence and shared understanding needed to make new tools part of everyday work.

Ongoing consultancy and mentoring

Regular support helped Raven keep momentum, review progress and respond to new needs. Cosmic worked with people across the organisation, from the Board and senior leaders to managers and frontline colleagues.

The results

The partnership created practical benefits across Raven Housing Trust. It also gave the organisation a stronger foundation for future digital improvement.

Leadership workshops gave senior colleagues the knowledge and confidence to lead a complex digital change programme.

Organisation-wide training improved digital confidence and encouraged colleagues to continue learning.

The Power App proof of concept showed how Raven could become more self-sufficient in developing tools that support operational efficiency.

New digital strategies encouraged more collaborative and effective ways of working.

Ongoing webinars and consultancy helped Raven continue learning after the main programme.

People made the change work

Raven’s experience shows that successful digital transformation for housing associations depends on more than software. Leadership, practical skills, reliable data and a supportive culture all need to move forward together.

Raven’s view

“Our journey showcases that when teams embrace change, it acts as the driving force behind the technology we adopt and the business strategies we pursue. Cosmic has been an excellent partner throughout, whether engaging with the Board or frontline.”
